In 1986, I was lucky enough to land a job as a car stereo installer. I 'blew up' the first radio I installed, but as I said, I was lucky! My employer was willing to take the time teach a young employee with no real experience. I was encouraged to learn more every day while on the job. At the same time, I was encouraged to further my education and followed my employer to Purdue University. My daytime boss became my evening Professor and was now teaching me at work, and at school! I now know that I was as lucky as anyone could be (Thanks Russ and Shirley Aubrey!)! When Russ and Shirley chose to close up shop at Seybert’s Electronics in 1997, I chose to go out on my own. I created a new company and began with very little idea what I was doing. One of our wholesale suppliers suggested that I open an online store and so I did. I placed a few items online and the orders started rolling in. I was amazed at how easy it was. As more and more stores materialized, it became more competitive, but we’re still here, and working every day to satisfy every one of our customers. In the year 2000, Aiwa brought its first indash CD/MP3 player to market. What an exciting time that was! We were taking advance orders on this new item and it was so much fun! Once Aiwa finally got the product to the street, we were selling them faster than we could get them. It was more than I could keep up with alone, so I invited a friend, who was looking for a business opportunity, to check out what was going on here. My friend offered to buy into the business, and became its president in 2001. I had knowledge of the 12 volt industry, and he had business experience and our company grew consistently and rapidly. At the end of 2004, my partner offered to buy me out of the business, so I moved on to other things. It wasn’t long, however, before I realized that I missed the audio business, so I started anew, as Anderson Electronics, Inc. 2010 is my 24th year in the 12 volt, commercial sound, and consumer electronics business.
